Former Physician Assistant Program Director at the George Washington University School of Medicine and Health Sciences J. Jeffrey Heinrich, EdD, PA-C, passed away on May 10, 2020.
Heinrich served as a corpsman with the United States Marines in Vietnam, where he received a purple heart. He earned his PA degree from the Duke University Physician Assistant Program in 1973, and practiced as a surgical PA at the Trauma/Section of Plastic Surgery of the Yale University School of Medicine.
In 1998, Heinrich became the program director of the Physician Assistant Program at the George Washington University School of Medicine and Health Sciences. He continued to serve in that position until his retirement in 2007.
Heinrich was active in a variety of state and national physician assistant organizations, including serving on the Board of Directors of the American Academy of Physician Assistants, as well as president of the Connecticut Academy of Physician Assistants, president of the Physician Assistant Foundation of the American Academy of Physician Assistants, and the first President and co-founder of the Society for the Preservation of Physician Assistant History. He was one of the first physician assistants to become a member of the American Burn Association.
